Laughter Yoga (Hasya Yoga) is a practice involving prolonged voluntary laughter that provides the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter. Forced laughter soon turns into real and contagious laughter.
The Laughter Yoga method was made popular by an Indian physician Dr. Madan Kataria, who writes about the practice in his 2002 book Laugh For No Reason.
A session typically includes stretching, chanting, clapping, breathing techniques, laughter exercises, eye-contact and childlike playfulness.
By doing these exercises on a regular basis you will bring more joy into your life. You will learn to control negative thoughts when they come up and turn them into positive ones.
With Laughter Yoga we release tension and work on many levels of our whole wellbeing. We are opening the body by stretching and moving in a playful way, like children.
Repeating positive affirmations empower us to overcome negative thoughts. Clapping activates pressure points in our hands that make us feel joyful. Breathing opens the lungs and increases the oxygen levels in our brain and blood circulation.
With Laughter exercises we are stimulating our endocrine system by releasing hormones called Endorphines from our brain, which will leave you feeling light-hearted and joyful.
